To obtain a Level I license in the state of New Mexico you will need first meet all requirements to obtain an internship license, which then allows you to then apply for the Online Portfolio for Alternative Licensure (OPAL). You may also choose another alternative route through a post-baccalaureate alternative licensure program (face to face or online).
Check with the New Mexico Public Education Department for approved programs at 505-827-1436.
Once you submit your OPAL, and NMPED has verified all of your transcripts and testing requirements, the OPAL gets released to be reviewed by independent reviewers who match in Licensure Area, Level and Content Area. If you receive a score of Meets for all strands then you will be issued a Level I license.
